As we keep on trying to tell you, Trogir is more than just a UNESCO protected city with beautiful monuments and a vast history. Here you can also explore the surroundings which in some locations are still untouched by the modern age. You can still find secluded beaches, deep forests of Mediterranean vegetation and each corner of the island Čiovo can offer you a different breathtaking view so when you hit that corner, don’t forget to breath!
The island of Čiovo is an island connected to an island and then connected to land –it literally has four bridges. Yeah, some people come and never realize that they are not staying on the mainland. The island is the focal point of the Trogir Outdoor festival which is in May every year and is dedicated to sports enthusiasts who can join the festival from all over the world. The festival is divided into two main sports: trail and triathlon, but you don’t have to be a serious sportsman to join because the trails are divided into three categories: easy, medium and hard, and the triathlon has numerous difficulty races.
The trail races are all on the island Čiovo and if you don’t know, the island was once used for producing olive oil. There are many fields that are still filled with olive trees, there are a few hidden old churches you can pass by, and each village still has the old village within it so you will see many stoned houses and wells… Can you imagine walking or running through these trails? As mentioned, there are three categories in length: 5 km, 11 km and 20 km, so there is the option of a power walk for recreation, semi hard trail for the enthusiasts and the hard trail is recommended only for professionals. In other words, there is something for everyone.
The triathlon starts its swimming stage in the old town of Trogir in front of nothing less than the Fortress of Kamerlengo. Leaving the city for the next stage you have to surpass the Trogir walls and cobble roads to hop onto your bike. The long ride begins and ends in the old town, but you have to pass the island Čiovo by road. If you are able to peel away your gaze from the beautiful surroundings of lavish vegetation and the sea breeze in your face and not stop to breath in the air, you might actually finish the race. Once you set wheel back into Trogir, the third stage of running is around the old town itself where you will pass three parks and two bridges.
Trogir Outdoor festival can offer you a memorable experience, either by joining a race and getting that high of adrenaline or by being a part of a festival that can show you why we all love living here –the nature, the sea, the air, the mentality and strength it gives us; you truly need to live it to believe it.The whole festival is complemented with prizes, medals, trophies, refreshments, lunch packages and for the finale, music and dance. Every once in a while, a new category appears like Stand-up-Paddle or kayak, so to be informed on time, check the website and follow the news. Also, keep up with the festival on their social media.
